St. Norbert Splits With Buccaneers

BELOIT - St. Norbert College fashioned a split with Beloit College in a pair of Midwest Conference games, losing the opener 4-2 before winning the nightcap 6-5 at Strong Stadium.

In the nightcap, the Green Knights trailed 3-2 after four innings before rallying. St. Norbert scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning, scoring two runs on an Amanda Van Handel single to score Gina Mastrodomenico and Tia Danforth.

St. Norbert pushed ahead 5-3 with a single run in the sixth inning, scoring when Ashley Schuettpelz drove in Brooke Wilson with a single. The Buccaneers scored twice in their half of the sixth inning to knot the game at 5-5, but St. Norbert scored on an error in the top of the seventh inning. Beloit drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't advance the runner.

Emily Laufer, who homered in the fourth inning, finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored with two RBIs.

Lexi LeCalsey picked up the win, going 3 2/3 innings in relief, allowing two hits, two earned runs and four strikeouts.

In the opener, Beloit took a 3-0 lead after scoring once in the second inning and twice in the third inning. The Green Knights cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Amy McBride, but Beloit got one run back in the bottom of the inning and neither team scored the rest of the game.

St. Norbert had seven hits in the opener, with Van Handel stroking a double. LeCalsey took the loss, allowing nine hits with one walk and three strikeouts in six innings pitched.
