St. Norbert Pulls Away From Concordia

DE PERE - St. Norbert College broke open a close game with two runs in each of its last two at bats to gain an 8-3 win over Concordia University Wisconsin in a non-conference game at Larry Van Alstine Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

The Green Knights (14-10) were nursing a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning when it scored two runs to get some breathing room. Sean Grant's one-out triple set up him scoring when Adam Enwiya hit a sacrifice fly. Jacob Raeder's squeeze bunt later in the inning plated Enwiya, who reached on an error.

St. Norbert scored two more runs in the eighth inning when Tyler Banovich's double scored Andy Peterik and Grant's single brought home Banovich.

The Green Knights got off to a good start when Derek Klegin opened the game with a home run. Klegin's single scored Raeder in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. St. Norbert scored twice in the third inning on RBI singles from Raeder and Peterik.

Concordia answered with two runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning to cut its deficit to 4-3. The Falcons left 10 runners on base in the first five innings, with St. Norbert working out of bases-loaded jams in the second and fifth innings.

St. Norbert had 11 hits. Grant was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Peterik was 2-for-3 while Klegin was 2-for-5 with two runs batted in.

Banovich picked up the win throwing three scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit with one strikeout.
