Green Knights Charge Back to Split With Carthage

DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored nine runs in its last two at bats to fashion a doubleheader split in a pair of non-conference games with Carthage College at Miron Construction Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex. The Green Knights won the nightcap 10-4 after dropping the opener 4-3.

St. Norbert trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Green Knights scored four runs in the frame, with Tia Danforth hitting a two-run double to put St. Norbert ahead 3-2. Emily Laufer followed with a run-scoring single and Amy McBride had an RBI triple to close out the rally.

Carthage scored twice in the top of the sixth inning to get to within 5-4, but the Green Knights put the game out of reach with a five-run uprising. Gina Mastrodomenico had a run-scoring single, followed by a two-run single by Laufer. McBride then had another triple to drive in two more runs and a 10-5 lead.

Kasey Roff earned the win, allowing seven hits with one strikeout in five innings. Lexi LeCalsey earned the save allowing no earned runs and two hits in two innings pitched.

Laufer was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. McBride was 2-for-4 with two triples and three RBIs. Danforth and Mastrodomenico were both 2-for-4.

In the opener, St. Norbert trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning before scoring three times in its last at bat. Danforth opened the inning with a solo home run. Laufer walked, and after two outs Brooke Wilson reached on an error. Kaitlyn Amundson then tripled to center field to drive in two runs, but the Green Knights could push across the game-tying run.

LeCalsey took the loss, allowing eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts. St. Norbert had four hits.
