DE PERE - St. Norbert College settled for a split in a Midwest Conference North Division doubleheader with Carroll University, winning the opener 5-2 before dropping the nightcap 7-4 at Larry Van Alstine Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

The Green Knights (15-11, 8-5 MWC North) rode starting pitcher Jake McMahon to the win in the opener. McMahon allowed just six hits and one earned run while walking only one and striking out 10 to earn the win.

St. Norbert tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning when a Sean Grant double drove in Tyler Banovich. The Green Knights took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on a Griffin Jack single to drive in Adam Enwiya.

The Green Knights pulled away with three runs in the seventh inning. Banovich drove in two runs on a single and came around to score on an infield error to give St. Norbert a 5-1 lead.

Banovich was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Jack was 3-for-4, while Grant was 2-for-4 and Derek Klegin 2-for-5.

In the nightcap, the Green Knights fell behind 3-0 after two innings and couldn't get back into the game. St. Norbert scored a single run in the fourth inning on a bases-loaded walk by Jason Malkowski, but the Green Knights would leave the bases loaded. Carroll answered with one run in the fifth inning and two in the sixth inning to take a 6-1 lead.

St. Norbert got a run back in the sixth inning on a Jack bases-loaded walk, but again left the bases loaded. Carroll added another run in the top of the seventh. St. Norbert would score two runs in the bottom of the eighth when Grant scored on a passed ball and Jack hit a sacrifice fly.

Malkowski was 2-for-3, while Klegin and Hunter Larson were both 2-for-5.

Blake Rutherford took the loss, allowing eight hits and four runs in 4 2/3 innings.
