Season Ends With Setbacks to UW-Eau Claire

DE PERE - St. Norbert College's season came to an end with a pair of non-conference losses to UW-Eau Claire by scores of 9-1 and 14-5 in eight innings at Miron Construction Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

St. Norbert rallied in the nightcap from a 5-2 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Brooke Wilson, Francesca Marrese and Amanda Van Handel all singled, setting up a three-run double to the right-center field gap with two outs by Ashley Schuettpelz to tie the game at 5-5.

Neither team had a scoring opportunity in the seventh inning, but the Blugolds would score nine runs on eight hits in the top of the eighth inning to pull away.

St. Norbert tied the game 1-1 in the first inning on an RBI single by Emily Laufer, and knotted the game 2-2 in the fourth inning on a double by Van Handel.

Laufer finished the game 2-for-3 while Van Handel was 2-for-4. Marrese took the complete-game loss.

In the opener, Eau Claire scored in five of its six at-bats to slowly pull away. The Green Knights scored their only run in the third inning on a Tia Danforth double to score Megan Yeo.

Danforth was 2-for-3 in the game. Lexi LeCalsey took the loss, allowing 10 hits and seven runs in five innings pitched.
