St. Norbert Gets Three Event Champions on Day 1 of Outdoor Meet

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - St. Norbert College picked up three event championship on the first day of the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship hosted by Cornell College at Ash Park.

The Green Knights hold the lead in the team scoring through the first five events with 62 points. Cornell is second with 52 points, while Monmouth College is third with 29 points.

Kristina Herman won the shot put, Kyra VandenHevel the long jump and Erin Lang the javelin throw to win conference championships on the first day.

Herman uncorked a throw of 44 feet 3 1/4 inches to win the shot put, setting a new school record and ranking 15th in Division III this season. Savanna Smith finished third at 39-0 1/4 while Hannah Kruse was fifth at 37-6 3/4.

VandenHeuvel won the long jump with a distance of 16-6. Samantha Morateck was fifth with a distance of 15-10 1/4.

Lang took the javelin throw with a distance of 107 feet.

Taylor Domro took second int the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:38.82. Erin Artz was fourth in 4:45.38.

Tori Nelsen was fifth in the 10,000-meter run in 38:54.76 while Taylor Miller was eighth in 39:55.40.
