Big Second Quarter Paces St. Norbert Past Lawrence

APPLETON -- St. Norbert College used a 35-point second quarter to break open a close game and went on to claim a 62-0 win over Lawrence University in a Midwest Conference game at Banta Bowl.

The Green Knights (4-2, 4-0 MWC) led 6-0 after the first quarter followed a 34-yard scamper by quarterback J.T. Crosby with 4:01 remaining in the period.

St. Norbert extended its lead 17 seconds into the second quarter when Crosby hit Samuel Staehling on a 71-yard touchdown pass for a 13-0 lead after stopping Lawrence on downs in St. Norbert territory. That play put the momentum solidly in the Green Knights' favor, who would score four touchdowns in the final 8:11 of the half.

Elijah Fort ripped off a 41-yard run with 8:11 left for a 20-0 lead. Lawrence fumbled the ensuing kickoff with St. Norbert recovering at the Vikings' 2-yard line. Fort scored from one yard out two plays later for a 27-0 edge.

Crosby would score the next two touchdowns, scoring with 4:01 left and again with 14 seconds remaining before halftime following muffed punt by Lawrence for a 41-0 halftime edge.

St. Norbert's 35-point quarter was its second of the season. The Green Knights scored 35 points in the first quarter in a 50-3 win over Knox on Sept. 17.

The Green Knights scored three touchdowns in the second half. The Green Knights got a 1-yard touchdown run from Fort in the third quarter and a 6-yard touchdown pass from Crosby to Boockmeier and a 5-yard scoring jaunt by Curtiss Arndt in the fourth quarter.

St. Norbert outgained Lawrence 550-200 in total offense. Crosby completed 12 of 19 passes for 199 yards and two touchdowns one interception and also rushed 13 times for 83 yards and three touchdowns. Fort rushed 11 times for 80 yards and three touchdowns. Boockmeier had a team-high four receptions for 31 yards, while Staehling had 104 yards on two catches for one touchdown.

Lawrence was led by Philip Santiago, who had 56 yards rushing on nine carries and also completed 6 of 12 passes for 49 yards.

Matt Barrett led the St. Norbert defense with 10 tackles.
