Green Knights Roll to Sweep Behind Another Shutout

FOND DU LAC - St. Norbert College posted a second shutout in as many games to open the 2016-17 season as the Green Knights rolled to a 7-0 win over Marian University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Blue Line Family Ice Center.

The Green Knights (2-0, 2-0 NCHA), ranked No. 2 in the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com polls, blanked the 15th-ranked Sabres 6-0 in the series opener Friday in De Pere to claim the series by an aggregate 13-0 score.

Roman Uchyn gave St. Norbert all the scoring it would need with a 5-on-3 power-play goal at the 8-minute mark of the first period.

The Green Knights led 2-0 after two periods after Riley Christensen scored at 15:13 of the middle stanza.

St. Norbert broke things open with a five-goal third period, its second five-goal period in as many games. Sean Campbell scored a power-play goal at 4:23, followed by a score at 8:14 from Tanner Froese. Noah Nelson followed 36 seconds later for a 5-0 lead.

Clay Van Diest scored a shorthanded empty-net goal at 10:24 of the period, and Dominick Sacco notched his first collegiate goal at 17:22 to close out the scoring.

Van Diest had two assists to finish with a three-point game. Christensen, Nelson, Uchyn and Froese each had assists to total two points apiece.

St. Norbert outshot Marian 27-26. Tony Kujava turned away all 26 shots for the Green Knights to register the shutout. Mike Baldwin made 20 saves for the Sabres.

The Green Knights were 3-for-10 on the power play while Marian was 0-for-9.
