Green Knights Wrap Up Second Place With Win Over Macalester

DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to clinch second place in the Midwest Conference while topping Macalester College 35-7 on Senior Day at Schneider Stadium.

The Green Knights (7-3, 7-1) closed out their 18th consecutive winning season by pulling away from a 14-7 lead on Macalester (7-3, 6-2) after three quarters.

Following a scoreless first quarter, St. Norbert went on a 10-play, 79-yard drive that fell short of the end zone by 1 foot, turning the ball over on downs with 7:49 remaining in the first half. On Macalester's first play from scrimmage, Tommy Gonzalez intercepted Cody Petrich's pass and brought returned it 10 yards for a touchdown 12 seconds later.

St. Norbert forced another Scots' punt and the Green Knights promptly moved 76 yards in 10 plays in just over four minutes to take 14-0 lead. J.T. Crosby's 4-yard touchdown pass with 14 seconds left before halftime but the Green Knights ahead 14-0.

Macalester answered on the first possession of the third quarter, needing 10 plays to march 75 yards. The Scots benefited from a defensive pass interference call that waived an interception return for a touchdown and eventually scored on a 27-yard pass fro Petrich to Sam Bordo with 10:07 left in the period.

St. Norbert scored on its first possession of the fourth quarter, punctuated by a 9-yard touchdown run by Elijah Fort to give St. Norbert a 21-7 edge with 11:36 remaining. Macalester drove down the field and was stopped on downs by the Green Knights at the St. Norbert 23 with 8:05 to go.

St. Norbert put the game out of reach with a 34-yard touchdown from Crosby to Grant Murray to with 6:25 left for a 28-7 lead. Alec Swanson intercepted a Petrich pass on the next Macalester possession, and on the ensuing possession Curtiss Arndt punched it in from 2 yards out to increase the Green Knight's margin to 35-7 with 2:40 left.

St. Norbert outgained Macalester on the ground 242-92 and overall in total offense 403-291. Crosby finished the game going 15 for 18 through the air for 161 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Elijah Fort led all runners with 140 yards on 20 carries. Zach Reeves topped the team in receptions and receiving yards, hauling in five passes for 58 yards.

Petrich completed 12 of 30 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions for the Scots.

Defensively, Swanson and Gonzales both had a game-high eight tackles and an interception, while Bryan Nolan had six stops, two of which were sacks.
