Green Knights Bomb Beloit as Winske Records 400th Career Win

BELOIT - St. Norbert College invoked the 10-run rule twice as the Green Knights totaled 31 hits in a Midwest Conference North Division doubleheader sweep of Beloit College by scores of 14-0 and 11-1 at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium.

The Green Knights (11-5, 3-1 MWC North) also gave St. Norbert coach Tom Winske his 400th career win with a victory in the opener. Winske now holds a 401-264-1 record in 19 seasons with the Green Knights.

St. Norbert pounded out 16 hits in the seven-inning opener and then collected 15 hits in the eight-inning nightcap. The barrage capped a white-hot series for St. Norbert's Hunter Larson and Griffin Jack. Larson hit .647 (11-for-17) in the four games against the Buccaneers, while Jack hit .579 (11-for-19).

The Green Knights got things rolling right away in the opener when Tyler Banovich's double and Jack's single brought in a pair of runs.

St. Norbert took the mystery out of it with a 10-run third inning, registering nine hits in the frame. Banovich had another RBI double, followed by Jack's run-scoring single. Sean Ferraro and Andy Peterik later had RBI singles. Larson drove in two runs with a single, and Jack picked up two more RBIs in the inning with a single. Sean Grant closed out the scoring with a two-run double for a 12-0 lead.

The Green Knights added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, with Robbie Dombrowski posting an RBI single and Larson drilling a solo home run.

Larson finished 4-for-5 with four runs scored and three RBIs. Jack was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Banovich and Grant were both 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles apiece. Banovich scored three runs. Dombrowski was also 2-for-3.

Jason Malkowski twirled a two-hit shutout, walking one and striking out six.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert didn't waste much time taking control with a five-run second inning. Dombrowski had a run-scoring single with Malkowski later scoring on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead. Larson singled to bring in two more runs, while Banovich singled for a 5-0 edge.

St. Norbert scored twice in the third inning on a Derek Klegin two-run single, followed by two more runs in the fourth inning on an error and a Malkowski single. The Buccaneers got their only run of the day with one run in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 9-1, but St. Norbert got the run back in the fifth on a Larson RBI single.

The Green Knights pushed ahead 11-1 when Malkowski's single brought in Jack in the eighth inning.

Larson was 3-for-4 with with three RBIs, while Malkowski was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Klegin was 2-or-3 with two RBIs, while Jack and Dombrowski were both 2-for-5.

Tyler Rouze turned in a complete-game victory, scattering six hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
