MAUSTON - St. Norbert College opened the Midwest Conference Crossover with a hard-fought 2-0 shutout win over Monmouth College at Woodside Sports Complex.

The Green Knights (17-8, 7-2 MWC North) got a combined shutout win on the mound from Jason Malkowski and Carson Jacques to outduel Monmouth's Tyler McDonald.

St. Norbert scored its first run when it loaded the bases in the bottom of the third inning with nobody out. Hunter Larson's sacrifice fly scored Robbie Dombrowski with the run.

That run would hold up until the bottom of the eighth inning. Tyler Banovich walked with one out and promptly stole second base. After a popout, Jacob Raeder's single to left field brought home Banovich for the second run.

Malkowski led runners in scoring position in the first, third and fourth innings and was aided by two double plays. Jacques came on with two on and two out in the seventh inning and got a strikeout, and allowed just two hits to get the save.

Malkowski allowed four hits with five walks and five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Jacques allowed two hits with three strikeouts and no walks in 2 1/3 innings.

McDonald took the hard-luck loss for the Scots, allowing six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.

Klegin had St. Norbert's lone multi-hit game at 2-for-4. Jake Starkey was 3-for-4 for Monmouth.
