Vandenberg, Crump Lead St. Norbert at MWC Singles Championships

MADISON - Alex Vandenberg and Jordan Crump won the consolation championships at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, to lead St. Norbert College at the Midwest Conference Singles Championships at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

Vandenberg won his consolation championship match by an 8-5 score over Lawrence University's Aidan Delgado. Vandenberg topped Ripon College's Adrian Granados 8-0 in the consolation semifinals. Vandenberg lost his quarterfinal match to Lake Forest College's Ellis Lora-Arceo 6-4, 6-4.

Crump won his consolation championship by an 8-2 score over Monmouth's Cole Pyatt. Crump topped Illinois College's T.J. Lawal 8-1 in the semifinals after dropping a 6-1, 6-3 decision to Lake Forest College's Dragan Trivanovic in the quarterfinals.

Matt La Violette had a bye into the semifinals at No. 6, but dropped a 6-3, 7-6 decision to Lawrence's David Brooker.

Three other Green Knights were consolation runner-ups in their respective brackets - Ben Vande Zande at No. 1, John Zanotti at No. 2 and Brady Hicks at No. 3.

Vande Zande fell to Lake Forest's Dan Pivonka 8-1 in the consolation championship. He topped Monmouth College's Ronnie Griffin 8-5 in his consolation semifinal after falling 6-0, 6-1 to Cornell College's Gabriel Souza in his quarterfinal match.

Zanotti lost to Lawrence's Bill Schuman-Kline 8-0 in the consolation championship. He defeated Knox College's Jared Schwarz 8-4 in the semifinals after opening with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Cornell's Hayden Dzurisin in the semifinals.

Hicks dropped an 8-6 decision to Monmouth's Paulo Pliego in his consolation championship. Hicks beat Illinois College's Rolando Salazar in the semifinals after opening with a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Cornell's Shoma Kishimoto in the quarterfinals.
