Three Power-Play Goals Lift St. Norbert Past St. Mary's

WINONA, Minn. - St. Norbert College used a trio of power-play goals to top St. Mary's University 5-1 in a non-conference game at the SMU Ice Arena.

The Green Knights, ranked No. 3 by USCHO.com, improved to 13-4. The Cardinals fell to 1-10.

Freshman Johan Ryd had his first collegiate goal just 3 minutes 18 seconds into the game off an assist from Pete Fylling. Matt Boyd scored his second goal of the season with a power-play goal at 12:04 of the first period.

Tyler Allen scored for the sixth time on the season 2:42 into the second period for a 3-0 lead. The Cardinals would cut into the deficit at 8:45 of the second on a power-play goal by A.J. Woodward.

A.J. Gale would score St. Norbert's last two goals, both on the power play. Gale scored a power-play marker at 18:24 of the second period off assists from Boyd and Scott Pulak. Gale scored again at 4:39 of the third period off assists from Shane Wheeler and Pulak. Gale now has a team-high 16 goals this season. Wheeler finished the game with two assists, while Gale had three points.

Blake Bashor made 30 saves for St. Norbert, while Greg Moore had 38 saves for the Cardinals. St. Norbert outshot St. Mary's 43-31. The game was marred by 32 penalties for 104 minutes, with St. Mary's totaling 19 penalties for 62 minutes.

St. Norbert was 3-for-9 on the power play, while St. Mary's was 1-for-5.
