Hot Start Lifts Green Knights to Third-Straight Win

HANCOCK, Mich. - St. Norbert College scored three goals in the first seven minutes of the game and went on to gain a 6-2 win over Finlandia University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Houghton County Arena.
The Green Knights (3-2, 3-0 NCHA) wasted little time taking control, with Jessica Schlaff scoring a power-play goal just 2:53 into the game. Emily Bondrager scored her first goal of the season just 21 seconds later for a 2-0 edge. Selena Stromer then registered her fourth marker of the season with a power-play goal at 6:57.
Finlandia (1-3, 1-2 NCHA) responded at 10:24 with an unassisted goal by Sierra Meiners. Libbie Doney got the goal back at 16:21 to give the Green Knights a 4-1 lead, but the Lions' Bella Abear scored at 17:41 for a 4-2 score after intermission.
Following a scoreless second period, Rachael Goodrow put St. Norbert ahead 5-2 with an even-strength goal at 2:59. The Green Knights sealed the win with an empty-net goal by Libby Barbato with 2:47 remaining.
Stromer, Goodrow and Schlaff all had assists for two-point games, while Lexi Pyykkonen finished with two assists.
St. Norbert outshot Finlandia 44-20. Leigh Grall made 18 saves for the Green Knights, while Annah Smiddy turned away 38 shots for the Lions.
The Green Knights were 2-for-5 on the power play, while the Lions were 0-for-7.
