St. Norbert Shoots Down Carroll

DE PERE - St. Norbert College shot 53.4 percent from the floor en route to a 78-46 win over Carroll University in a non-conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (2-2) canned 31 of 58 field-goal attempts and also shot 47.4 percent (9-for-19) from beyond the three-point arc.

Both teams shot well in the first quarter, both finishing at exactly 50 percent before ending the first 10 minutes of action in a 17-17 tie. St. Norbert then opened the second quarter on an 8-0 run to take control.

Sarah Neumann opened the quarter with a layup, followed by a pair of Hannah Ciesielczyk free throws. Hayley Winzenried then canned a jumper for a 23-17 lead 2 1/2 minutes into the period. Neumann added another basket at the 4:33 mark for a 25-18 edge. Carroll's Emily Majerus canned a 3-pointer at the 4:22 mark to stop the run, but the Green Knights would score the next nine points. Regan Carmichael's 3-pointer gave the Green Knights a 34-20 bulge before settling on a 34-23 halftime lead.

Carroll scored the first points of the second half, but St. Norbert then went on a 14-0 run to take a 48-25 lead with 4:12 left in the third quarter and effectively decide the outcome.

Carmichael finished with a double-double for the Green Knights, posting 19 points and 10 rebounds. Neumann added 15 points, while Liz Edinger added 13 points, six assists and six rebounds. St. Norbert also held a 43-27 rebounding advantage.

Carroll shot 26.4 percent (14-for-53) from the floor. Delaney Sjong led the Pioneers with 14 points, while Brittney Wald added 11 points.
