Green Knights Fall In Overtime at Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College rallied late in regulation but eventually dropped a 70-67 overtime decision at Monmouth College in a Midwest Conference game at Glennie Gym.

The Green Knights (12-3, 7-1 MWC) trailed 56-46 with 4:09 left before charging back to close regulation time on a 12-2 run. Connor Curtis got the spurt started with a conventional three-point play, following by baskets from Taylor Penn and D.J. DeValk to trim the deficit to 56-53 with 2:12 left. Monmouth's Paul Engo canned a basket with 1:47 left, but Wade Geenen pulled St. Norbert to within 58-56 with a 3-pointer with 1:22 left. Penn connected again with a hoop with 30 seconds left and the Green Knights got a defensive stop to force overtime tied at 58-58.

St. Norbert led 66-63 with 2:28 left in overtime, but the Green Knights missed two front-ends of 1-and-1s and three of four charity tosses overall down the stretch. The Green Knights trailed by one late before a turnover led to a pair of Monmouth free throws. A 3-pointer near the buzzer to force a second overtime was off the mark.

The Green Knights trailed 33-23 at halftime after the Scots closed out the final 5 1/2 minutes on a 16-6 run.

St. Norbert shot 46.6 percent (27-for-58) from the floor but was 6-for-9 at the free-throw line. Curtis led St. Norbert with 22 points, while Geenen added 10 points.

Monmouth shot 37.5 percent (21-for-56) from the floor but was 22-for-27 (81.5 percent) at the free-throw line. Will Jones had 14 points, while Lamar Watson added 11 points.
