Green Knights Drop Return at Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - St. Norbert College had a hot start but couldn't hold on and lost a 62-49 decision to Cornell College at Small Multi-Sport Center.

The Green Knights (5-4) jumped out of the gate with an 11-0 lead. Christine Olijnyk connected on a 3-pointer, followed by a Sarah Ratajczyk layup. Macie Zurfluh made two free throws, Hannah Ciesielczyk hit a jumper and Sarah Wiseman scored for an 11-0 edge with 3:23 left in the first quarter to force Cornell to ask for time.

The Rams would close the quarter on a 7-0 run to trail 11-7 after 10 minutes. St. Norbert would counter with a 6-2 run to open the second quarter, started with a 3-pointer by Wiseman and finished on a hoop by Ratajczyk for a 17-9 lead with 7:40 left. Cornell would then go on a 13-2 run to take a 22-19 lead at halftime.

Cornell pulled away in the third quarter, scoring the first seven points on two baskets by Diamond Boyd and a 3-pointer by Haley Grana. St. Norbert would get to within nine points at 29-20 on a Sarah Neumann free throw, but Cornell would get the next basket and maintain its double-digit lead the rest of the way.

St. Norbert shot 38.1 percent (16-for-42) from the floor. Wiseman was the only Green Knight in double figures with 16 points. St. Norbert committed 24 turnovers.

Cornell shot 38.5 percent (25-for-65) from the floor. Grana led the Rams with 11 points.
