Green Knights Open Spring With Split

GREEN BAY - St. Norbert College began the spring portion of its 2017-18 schedule with a split of a pair non-conference dual matches at Western Racquet & Fitness Club. The Green Knights lost to the University of St. Thomas 9-0 before bouncing back to top Milwaukee School of Engineering 9-0.

St. Norbert (2-1) rolled to three doubles wins against MSOE. Ben Vande Zande and Robert Quinland defeated Ryan Runke 8-1 at No. 1, followed by an 8-1 win for Zach Simonet and John Zanotti at No. 2. Alex Vandenberg and Joe Oleniczak topped Bryan Roob and Connor Splingaire 8-3 at No. 3.

Vande Zande bested Runke in a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Zanotti finished off Norton 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2, while Quinlan defeated Phoenix 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3. Jordan Crump claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win over Splingaire at No. 4. Matt La Violette scored a 6-3, 6-2 triumph over Korbut at No. 5, while Vandenberg beat Roob 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.

Against St. Thomas, Oleniczak and Vandenberg lost a 9-8 (7-3) decision at No. 3 doubles to Zach LeVene and Garrett Malmquist. Vande Zande fell in three sets to Ben Wait at No. 1 singles by a 6-7, 6-3, 10-5 score.
