St. Norbert Pulls Away to Run Win Streak to 13

DE PERE - St. Norbert College slowly pulled away to post its 13th-straight win, a 78-52 triumph over Knox College in a Midwest Conference game at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights, ranked No. 17 by D3hoops.com, improved to 14-1 overall an 8-0 in the Midwest Conference. The 8-0 start is only the second time in St. Norbert has started that well in its 26-year membership in the MWC. Knox fell to 0-16, 0-9.

St. Norbert led 25-21 with 5:40 left in the first half before going on an 8-0 run to take a 33-21 lead with 3:09 to go before the half. Bryan Fleischmann's 3-pointer started the run, while Tom Katzfey made two free throws and Paul Mallers three to complete the run. Knox cut it to 34-26 just before the half but a defensive stop and a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by John Taylor gave the hosts a 37-26 halftime lead.

Knox got as close as 41-30 with 17:19 left, but St. Norbert would slowly pull away from there. The Green Knights led by as much as 28 points in the second half.

St. Norbert shot 44.4 percent from the floor, making 24 of 54 shots, and was 21-for-28 at the free-throw line. Katzfey had his first double-double of the eason with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor had 11 points, while Mallers finished with 10 points. The Green Knights had just six turnovers and were whistled for only eight fouls.

Knox shot just 38.2 percent (21-for-55) from the floor and was 4-for-16 from beyond the three-point arc. Matt Goedeke was the only Knox player to score in double figures with 10 points.
