Green Knights Swept at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa - St. Norbert College couldn't hold down a potent Grinnell College offensive attack and was swept by the Pioneers by scores of 8-5 and 10-6 in a Midwest Conference doubleheader.

The Green Knights and Pioneers were tied 5-5 in the fourth inning of the opener before Grinnell answered with a three-run fourth inning on a Darice Wheeler three-run home run to account for the margin of victory.

St. Norbert scored in the first inning on an Amanda Diedrich RBI double. The Pioneers scored twice in the first and once in the second to take a 3-1 lead, but the Green Knights answered with a run in the third inning on a Lexy Campshure solo home run. Grinnell responded with two runs in the third inning to go ahead 5-2, but St. Norbert scored three runs on five hits in the top of the fourth inning. Brianna Braeger had a two-run double and Leigh Grall a sacrifice fly to tie the game 5-5.

Diedrich and Alyssa Sikora were each 2-for-4 for St. Norbert, which had nine hits. Diedrich's two hits were doubles. Emma Molenhouse took the loss, allowing eight hits and six earned runs in four innings pitched.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Grinnell charged back with 10 unanswered runs.

Whitney Baumann and Sikora each had sacrifice flies in the second inning. The Green Knights scored four runs in the third inning, getting an RBI single by Diedrich, a sacrifice fly by Campshure and a two-run triple from Sikora.

Grinnell scored three runs in the third, four runs in the fourth inning and three runs in the sixth inning, fueled by an 11-hit attack.

Sikora was 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Randi Morack was 2-for-4. Sydney Pfotenhauer took the loss for the Green Knights, allowing seven hits and five runs in three innings of relief.
