St. Norbert Drops Pair at MWC Crossover

GALESBURG, Ill. - St. Norbert College opened up the Midwest Conference Crossover with a 10-6 loss to Monmouth College and a 5-3 loss to Grinnell College.

The Green Knights fell behind Monmouth 8-1 in the fifth inning and couldn't recover. Monmouth scored two runs in the top of the second before St. Norbert got a run back when Sean Grant scored on a passed ball. The Scots would add runs with a single tally in the third and fourth innings and a big four-run fifth inning.

St. Norbert scored once in the fifth on a Hunter Larson solo home run. Monmouth would score twice in the top of the eighth inning. St. Norbert got two runs in the bottom of the eight on Peyton Jack's two-run home run and got another pair in the ninth on Brett Reinhart's two-run single.

Larson was 2-for-5 with two runs scored to lead the Green Knights, who had 12 hits. Carson Jacques took the loss, allowing 10 hits and seven earned runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched.

Against Grinnell, St. Norbert held a 3-2 lead through seven innings, but Grinnell scored three runs with two outs in the top of the eighth inning to steal the win.

The Pioneers took a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. St. Norbert answered with three runs in the seventh inning, but would leave the bases loaded. Robbie Dombrowski had an RBI single, Jacob Raeder walked with the bases loaded and Sean Ferraro had a run-scoring fielder's choice.

Grant was 2-for-4 for the Green Knights, who had eight hits. Nick Klavekoske took the loss in relief, allowing five hits and three runs in two innings pitched.
