Green Knights Rout Lawrence

DE PERE - St. Norbert College bounced back in Midwest Conference play with a pair of 10-run victories over Lawrence University, winning 11-1 and 16-6 at Larry Van Alstine Field. The first game went eight innings and the second game seven innings and were stopped by the mercy rule.

The Green Knights (18-10, 7-3 MWC) were powered in the first game behind the pitching of Carson Jacques, who held the Midwest Conference's top offense to just two singles. Jacques held the Vikings, who entered the game hitting an MWC-best .321 on the season, just a pair of when they scored their lone run in the third inning. Jacques walked two and struck out two in eight innings, throwing just 90 pitches.

St. Norbert scored three runs on one hit and three Lawrence errors in the second inning, getting an RBI single by Robbie Dombrowski. The Green Knights added runs on a bunt RBI single by Lucas Reynolds in the fourth inning and a Sean Grant RBI groundout in the fifth inning. St. Norbert took advantage of further Lawrence largesse in the seventh inning, scoring five runs on one hit. The Green Knights ended the game with an unearned run in the eighth inning.

Jason Malkowski was 3-for-5 with two doubles, while Reynolds was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert jumped out to an 8-1 lead and survived a middle-inning comeback by the Vikings.

Malkowski and Grant had back-to-back RBI doubles in the first inning. Lawrence scored once in the third before St. Norbert erupted for six runs in the third inning, keyed by Griffin Jack's three-run home run. Tyler Banovich had an RBI double and Dombrowski a run-scoring single in the inning. Lawrence scored three runs in the fourth inning on a three-run home run by Patrick McDonnell, but St. Norbert got a run back on another Dombrowski RBI single in its half. The Vikings cut the score to 9-6 with two runs in the fifth inning on a two-run single by McDonnell.

St. Norbert broke open the game with seven runs on five hits and three Lawrence errors in the seventh inning. Jack had a run-scoring single, Jacob Raeder a two-run home run and Peyton Jack ended the game with a two-run double.

Raeder was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Malkowski was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBI and two doubles. Dombrowski was 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Grant, Griffin Jack and Hunter Larson all had two hits apiece. St. Norbert banged out 17 hits in the game.

Bryce Braspennickx earned the relief win, allowing one hit and no runs in 2 1/3 innings pitched.
