Green Knights Close Regular Season With Split

DE PERE - St. Norbert College closed out the regular season with a Midwest Conference doubleheader split against Ripon College, winning the opener 11-1 before dropping the nightcap 11-5 at Larry Van Alstine Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

The Green Knights (23-12, 11-5 MWC North) will host the Midwest Conference Tournament this Friday and Saturday in De Pere, and will play their opener at 10 a.m. Friday.

St. Norbert wasted little time taking control in the opener, scoring six runs on four hits in the second inning. Robbie Dombrowski had an RBI single and Lucas Reynolds a two-run double in the frame.

Ripon scored once in the third, but the Green Knights got the run back on a run-scoring single by Jason Malkowski. Dombrowski added a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning. The Green Knights added three more runs on a base hit by Malkowski, an RBI grounder by Griffin Jack and a Dombrowski grounder.

St. Norbert had 14 hits in the game. Larson was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Dombrowski was 2-for-3 with three RBI. Malkowski, Jack and Tyler Banovich were all 2-for-4.

Nick Klavekoske earned a complete-game win, scattering five hits while walking one and striking out four.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert jumped out to a 4-0 lead but couldn't hold on. Larson had an RBI single and Jack a sacrifice fly in the first inning, while Sean Ferraro had a sacrifice fly and Larson an RBI single in the second frame. Larson added a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to give St. Norbert a 5-1 lead.

Ripon pulled away scoring three runs in the fifth inning, one run in the sixth, two runs in the seventh, three runs in the eighth and one run in the ninth to go on a 10-0 run.

Larson finished 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Ferraro and Michael Larsen had two hits apiece.
