MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College finished in second place at the Midwest Conference Tournament after splitting a pair of games at Monmouth College's Glasgow Field. The Green Knights opened with a 4-0 elimination-game victory over Grinnell College before falling 10-3 to Monmouth College in the championship game.

St. Norbert (24-15) and Monmouth (28-12-1) were tied 2-2 in the fifth inning before the Fighting Scots scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to use as the impetus to capturing their first MWC baseball title since 2002.

Monmouth got a run in the bottom of the first inning but the Green Knights answered with a run in the second inning when Jacob Raeder plated Griffin Jack with a run-scoring double. The Scots scored another single run in the fourth inning but St. Norbert came again on Tyler Banovich's two-out single to score Hunter Larson.

The Scots then scored three runs on three hits in the fifth inning to break the game open. Monmouth added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings and then salted the game away with three runs in the eighth inning.

St. Norbert had baserunners in every inning but the first, but left 14 runners on base.

Larson and Brett Reinhart had two hits apiece. St. Norbert finished with 10 hits overall.

Against Grinnell, St. Norbert got a virtuoso pitching performance from Riley Lynch, who worked into the ninth inning. Grinnell loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the first inning, but Lynch worked out of it and allowed six hits with three walks and five strikeouts in eight-plus innings of work.

The Green Knights scored two runs in the third inning. Lucas Reynolds singled to right to plate Raeder. Robbie Dombrowski then scored from third on a throw to first on a strikeout for a 2-0 edge.

St. Norbert added a run when Reynolds scored Raeder again, this time on a sacrifice fly. The Green Knights posted an insurance run on Banovich's RBI single to score Reynolds.

The Green Knights had five hits against a trio of Grinnell pitchers.
