Green Knights Open Season With Two Wins Over WIAC Foes

STEVENS POINT - St. Norbert College opened the 2018-19 season with a pair of non-conference wins over Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes, beating UW-Stout 5-4 and UW-Stevens Point 9-0.

St. Norbert got two key doubles points against Stout. Claire Hetzel and Hannah Keller topped Kennedy Kleist and Gabe Kelch 8-4 at No. 2, while Erin Vits and Hannah Swajanen defeated Marian Kent and Kayla Chamberlain 8-1 at No. 3.

Meg Witt claimed a 6-0, 6-3 win over Linsey Thisius at No. 1 singles. Nicole Pfotenhauer topped Kent 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5 singles, while Keller bested Elizabeth Wahlquist 6-4, 6-0 at No. 6.

Against Stevens Point, Witt and Sofie Koppmann defeated Anna Dobbe and Angelica Hernadez 8-1 at No. 1. Hetzel and Keller beat Lea Beckman and Rebecca Goska 8-4 at No. 2, while Swajanen and Vits outlasted Kaylee Woelfel and Miranda Schueler 8-6 at No. 3.

Witt fashioned a 6-1, 6-1 win over Dobbe at No. 1 singles, followed by a 6-3, 6-0 triumph for Koppmann over Woelfel at No. 2. Hetzel defeated Hernandez 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3, while Swajanen earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over Beckman. Pfotenhauer finished with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Goska at No. 5, while Keller earned a forfeit win at No. 6.
