Green Knights Rout Lawrence

DE PERE - St. Norbert College opened up a two-game lead in the Midwest Conference with five games left to play following an 84-42 rout of Lawrence University at Schuldes Sports Center.

The Green Knights, 14-4 overall and 10-1 in the MWC, opened up a two-game lead on second-place Carroll, Beloit and Ripon when Beloit topped Ripon 42-40. Lawrence fell to 0-18, 0-11 in the MWC.

St. Norbert never trailed against the Vikings, jumping out to an 18-4 lead in the first nine minutes of the game. Krista Pelky's layup gave the Green Knights a 13-4 lead, and was followed by Stefanie Bunday's 3-pointer. Emily Otzelberger capped the run with a layup.

Lawrence would cut the deficit to 20-13 on a Laura Aerts jumper with 7 minutes 47 seconds left before halftime. But St. Norbert would go on a 20-7 run over the next seven minutes to take a 40-20 lead and a 40-22 lead at halftime.

The Vikings, who dressed just seven players, were never closer than 20 points in the second half.

St. Norbert shot 63.2 percent from the floor, making 36 of 57 field-goal attempts. Rachel Hermus had a team-high 12 points, while Denise Heuser added 11 points and Pelky 10. Bunday flirted with a triple double posting 10 points with eight rebounds and eight assists. The Green Knights also held a 36-24 rebounding advantage.

Aerts led Lawrence with 15 points, while Erin Henzi added 11 points. The Vikings shot 32.7 percent (16-for-49) from the floor and had 23 turnovers.
