DE PERE - St. Norbert College rallied late but couldn't quite get over the hump in a 6-3 season-opening loss to St. Mary's University in a non-conference game at Resch Olympic Pavilion.

The Green Knights trailed 4-1 early in the third period but got back into the game with a pair of goals. Libbie Doney scored at 12:51 of the third period to cut the deficit to 4-2, and Jessica Schlaff scored at 15:28 to pull the host to within a goal. But St. Mary's answered with a goal by Sophia Zebro at 17:41 was the backbreaker, and the Cardinals' Carolyn Chrastka added an empty-net goal with 50 seconds left to seal the outcome.

Following a scoreless first period, St. Mary's scored three goals just about six minutes apart to take a 3-0 lead. Lexie Budensiek scored at 7:05, Bailey Wendt at 9:43 and Courtney Moser at 12:58 for the Cardinals. The Green Knights got to within 3-1 at second intermission on Lauren Michael's goal at 14:17 of the period.

St. Mary's pushed ahead 4-1 on Delaney Wolf's goal at 6:57 of the third period before the Green Knights climbed back into the game.

Katie Trudeau had two assists for St. Norbert, the only multi-point game for the Green Knights.

St. Mary's held a 44-28 shots-on-goal edge. Anais Aurard made 38 stops for St. Norbert in her collegiate debut, including all 19 shots she faced in the third period. Ary Ziakas made 23 saves for the Cardinals.

St. Norbert was 0-for-1 on the power play, while St. Mary's was 1-for-6.
