DE PERE - St. Norbert College suffered its first loss of the season with a 2-1 loss to Knox College in the championship match of the Midwest Conference Tournament at Schneider Stadium.

The Prairie Fire (16-4-1) scored two goals in the first 30 minutes and the Green Knights (17-1-1), who gave up more than one goal in a match for the first time this season, couldn't recover.

Knox scored at 5:16 when the Prairie Fire executed a solid passing combination between spaced out players, finished on a Nick Janulis header. The Prairie Fire scored again at 29:20 when James Barrington connected on a backdoor header off a corner kick.

St. Norbert cut into the deficit at 57:58 when Ben Prange put in a header off a pass from Logan Block. Prange's goal was the 21st of the season, eclipsing the previous St. Norbert single-season record of 20 set by Will Carstens on 1993.

The Green Knights had a golden opportunity to tie the match down the stretch but an open shot was deflected aside at the goal line by an alert Knox defender. St. Norbert again appeared to tie the game in the 86th minute, but a goal was disallowed after a foul on the goalkeeper.

St. Norbert outshot Knox 9-8 and held an 8-3 edge in corner kicks. Josh Koleske and Ben Holtzen each worked a half for the Green Knights, making one save apiece. Justin Dunn made two stops for the Prairie Fire.
