St. Norbert Keeps Two-Game MWC Lead With Rout of Monmouth

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College maintained its two-game lead in the Midwest Conference with four games left to play with a 78-47 win over Monmouth College at Glennie Gym.

The Green Knights, who won their ninth consecutive game, stand 15-4 overall and 11-1 in the MWC, two games ahead of both Ripon and Beloit. Monmouth fell to 12-7, 7-5.

St. Norbert continued its solid play on both ends of the floor, scoring at least 66 points for the ninth consecutive game. The Green Knights also held their eighth straight opponent to 54 points or less.

The Green Knights led 11-9 before going on a quick 7-0 run for an 18-9 lead with 11:54 left in the first half. Jamie Kuhl hit a layup inside, followed a Krista Pelky basket. Morgan Strasser then hit a 3-pointer to cap the scoring spurt.

Monmouth would get to within 22-15 with 9:21 left in the half bfore St. Norbert would gradually build a 20-point first-half lead at 43-23 on a Denise Heuser jumper. The Green Knights settled on a 44-26 halftime lead.

The Scots would get to within 52-33 with 14:51 left on a Justine Boone 3-pointer, but St. Norbert would go on a 10-2 run over the next four minutes to put the game away at 62-35 with 11:05 left.

St. Norbert shot 53.4 percent for the game, making 31 of 58 shots. Heuser led St. Norbert with 17 points, while Strasser added 13 points. A total of 13 St. Norbert players scored in the game, with only three posting at least 20 minutes of action.

Monmouth shot 31 percent from the floor, making 18 of 58 field goals. Tanesha Hughes was the only Scot in double figures with 10 points.
