Strong Third Period Pushes St. Norbert Past Finlandia

DE PERE - St. Norbert College scored three third-period goals to snap a 2-2 tie after two periods and went on to claim a 5-3 win over Finlandia University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Resch Olympic Pavilion.

The Green Knights (2-2, 2-1 NCHA) got a pair of goals from Lauren Michael, including the one to put St. Norbert ahead in the third period.

St. Norbert took a 2-1 lead after one period. Finlandia's Kait Ryynanen scored a power-play goal just 1:13 into the game, but the Green Knights would answer with a power-play marker of their own on a score by KJ Wallace at 7:58. Michael's first goal of the game came at 13:28 of the first period for a one-goal nod after 20 minutes.

Finlandia's Kallin Morris scored with 1:04 remaining in the second period to bring the Lions square with the Green Knights at 2-2 at second intermission.

Michael put St. Norbert ahead to stay with a goal at the 6:05 mark of the third period. The Green Knights picked up an insurance goal on a finished by Rebecka Olsson just 1:40 later. Finlandia would make things interesting when Ryynanen scored a power-play goal at 10:40, but Kelli Sorge's empty-net goal at the 19:47 mark salted away the win.

St. Norbert outshot Finlandia 47-19. Anais Aurard made 16 saves for the Green Knights, while Annah Smiddy turned away 42 shots for the Lions.

The Green Knights were 1-for-5 on the power play, while the Lions were 2-for-3.
