Cornell Pulls Away From Green Knights Late

DE PERE - St. Norbert College battled Cornell College to a 55-48 loss in a Midwest Conference loss on Connie Tilley Court at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights and Rams were tied 44-44 with 6:34 to go but St. Norbert scored just four points the rest of the way.

Sarah Ratajczyk's basket drew St. Norbert even at that juncture, but the only points the next four minutes would be a 3-pointer by Cornell's Bella Gonzalez with 4:52 to go. Macie Zurfluh made a pair of free throws with 2:31 remaining to cut the deficit to 47-46, but Cornell would answer with a pair by Rose Shimaoka. Christine Olijnyk canned a of free throws with 1:57 left to cut it to 49-48, but the Rams would pull away as St. Norbert would not score again.

St. Norbert fell behind 15-2 in the first six minutes of the game but the Green Knights would trail just 17-9 at the end of the first quarter. St. Norbert continued to get closer in the second quarter, trailing by one on three different occasions before trailing 30-25 at halftime.

The Green Knights eventually reached their first tie at 34-34 after a 3-pointer by Olivia DeCleene with 4:20 left in the third quarter. St. Norbert and Cornell had five ties in the game, but the Green Knights could never take the lead. The two teams were tied 40-40 after three quarters.

St. Norbert shot 34 percent (18-for-53) from the floor. DeCleene and Olijnyk had 10 points apiece to lead the Green Knights, while Liz Edinger added eight points off the bench.

Cornell shot 39.6 percent (19-for-48) from the floor. Mo Kempiak had 19 points for the Rams, while Gonzalez added 17 points and Shimaoka 14 points.
