Green Knights Pull Away From Aurora

DE PERE - St. Norbert College broke open a close game with three third-period goals as the Green Knights rolled to a 5-1 win over Aurora University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Cornerstone Community Center.

The victory vaulted the Green Knights (9-3-3, 5-2-1 NCHA) into a tie for first place in the overall NCHA standings with Adrian College. Ten games remain in the NCHA regular-season race.

Aurora took the first lead when Larry Jungwirth scored at the 19:02 mark of the first period. That goal would hold up until past the midway point of the second period, when Roman Uchyn scored at 13:02. Riley Christensen put the Green Knights ahead with a marker at 17:45 for a 2-1 edge after two periods.

St. Norbert pulled away in the third period, breaking the Spartans' hopes with a pair of goals 79 seconds apart. Brendon Gysbers scored at 11:07 of the period, while Dominick Sacco added a goal at 12:26. Keegan Milligan finished the scoring with a score with 1:17 remaining.

Christensen added two assists to finish with a three-point game. Uchyn assisted on Sacco's goal for a two-point outing.

St. Norbert outshot Aurora 40-25. T.J. Black made 24 saves for the Green Knights, while Josh Boyko made 35 stops for the Spartans.

The Green Knights were 0-for-3 on the power play, while Aurora was 0-for-2.
