St. Norbert Holds Off Prairie Fire

GALESBURG, Ill. - St. Norbert College held off a late charge from Knox College as the Green Knights posted a 57-51 Midwest Conference win at Memorial Gym.

The Green Knights won the second consecutive game behind a decisive third quarter that saw them outscore the Prairie Fire 19-10.

St. Norbert, which trailed 25-22 at halftime, trailed 29-22 with 9:21 left in the third quarter. The Green Knights then went on a 10-2 run to take a 32-31 lead with 4:20 left in the period. Olivia DeCleene's 3-pointer brought the Green Knights to within 31-28. Sarah Ratajczyk and Macie Zurfluh then followed with baskets to put the Green Knights ahead 32-31.

Knox briefly regained the lead on a Morgan Potter hoop at the 3:58 mark, but the Green Knights scored the next seven points for an overall 17-4 run. Ratajczyk had consecutive baskets followed by a conventional three-point play from Zurfluh at the 1:42 mark for a 39-33 lead. St. Norbert led 41-35 after three quarters.

The Green Knights eventually pushed their lead to nine points on a Zurfluh jumper for a 46-37 lead with 6:59 remaining. Knox scored the next four points until Ali Hoeft's basket at 5:28 put St. Norbert ahead 48-41. The Green Knights would not score again until under a minute remained, but the Prairie Fire scored just three points during those 4 1/2 minutes.

St. Norbert made 7 of 8 free throws in the final minute to seal the win.

The Green Knights shot 35.4 percent (23-for-65) from the floor. Zurfluh finished with 16 points, eight assists and five rebounds. Ratajczyk added 13 points and 11 assists.

Knox shot 33.3 percent (20-for-60) from the floor. Potter finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Jarrelyn McCall had 11 points and Jessica Lee 10 points.
