Green Knights Fall to Marian

DE PERE - St. Norbert College couldn't hold on to a second-period lead and dropped an 8-4 decision to Marian University in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Resch Olympic Pavilion.

The game matched the highest combined score in St. Norbert history, with the 12 goals equaling a 7-5 St. Norbert win over St. Catherine University on Jan. 7, 2012.

St. Norbert and Marian traded goals in the first period, which ended even at 2-2. The Green Knights' Emilia Edmondson scored at the 3:18 mark, but Marian's Jamie Henrickson followed with a goal 29 seconds later. Libby Barbato pushed St. Norbert ahead at 14:01, but a power-play goal by Marian's Hannah Koniar at 17:47 knotted the score 2-2.

Lisa Lenell's goal at 1:39 of the second period gave St. Norbert a short-lived lead, with Marian's Morgan Bolin answering just 31 seconds later. Khloe Spors scored for the Green Knights at 2:48 for a 4-3 edge. The Sabres would scored the last two goals of the second period, with markers by Katie Meierotto at 11:33 and Sheila Blower at 18:59 for a 5-4 lead.

The Sabres iced the game with third-period goals by Natalie West at 6:44, Bolin at 9:47 and Ally Fox at 18:11. The last two goals were shorthanded.

Spors and Edmondson added assists for two-point games for the Green Knights.

St. Norbert outshot Marian 38-27. The Green Knights were 0-for-7 on the power play, while the Sabres were 1-for-6.

Anais Aurard worked the first two periods for the Green Knights, making 13 saves. Audrey Moore made six stops in the third period for St. Norbert. Lindsey Strainis made 34 saves for the Sabres.
