DE PERE - St. Norbert College turned in a solid effort with a 5-0 win over Northland College at Resch Olympic Pavilion to earn the final spot in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association Slaats Cup Playoffs.

The Green Knights and Lumberjills each finished with 15 league points, but St. Norbert claimed the sixth and final seeding into the tournament by virtue of its season sweep, including a 2-1 win in the series opener.

Following a scoreless first period, it appeared the second stanza would also have no scoring until Lauren Michael scored shorthanded with 20 seconds left in the frame for a 1-0 lead.

That goal would hold up until Michael worked her magic again, scoring another shorthanded tally at the 10:25 mark of the third period. The "shorties" are the first two of the season for St. Norbert, and Michael became the first player in school history to register a pair of shorthanded goals in one game. Michael improved her season goal total to 12, tying her for fifth most in a season in St. Norbert history.

Emelia Edmondson gave the Green Knights some breathing room with a goal at 12:19, followed by a power-play goal from Libbie Doney at 15:44. Lisa Lenell closed out the scoring with an empty-net marker at 19:10.

Doney added two assists for a three-point game.

St. Norbert outshot Northland 24-17. Anais Aurard made 17 saves for the Green Knights, her second shutout of the season. Gabby Suhr made 19 saves for Northland.

The Green Knights were 1-for-7 on the power play, while Northland was 0-for-5.
