Stolberg Wins St. Norbert's First Individual Conference Title

GRINNELL, Iowa - St. Norbert College freshman Ben Stolberg claimed the Green Knights' first men's swimming and diving individual conference championship when he won the 100-yard butterfly on the second day of the Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championship at Grinnell College's Osgood Pool.

Stolberg turned in a time of 51.04 seconds to win the 100-yard butterfly after entering the finals as the top seeding after preliminary heats. He won by nearly three-tenths of a second, finishing ahead of runner-up Paul Cover of Grinnell College, who finished in 51.32 seconds.

The 800-yard freestyle relay of Alex Cervantez, Peter Martin, Grant Gibson and Stolberg placed fifth in 7:12.59. The 200-yard medley relay of Jed Galutira, Martin, Stolberg and Cervantez finished sixth in 1:39.10.

Jaxsen Schermacher was fifth in 1-meter diving with 285.25 points, while Logan Stefl was seventh with 258.95 points. Martin finished sixth in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:21.78, while Gibson was ninth in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:47.56.

Galutira finished tenth in the 100-yard backstroke in 55.50 seconds. Jarod Meffert was 13th in 56.79 seconds, while Noah Barkes was 16th in 1:03.05.

Cervantez was 14th in the 100-yard butterfly in 54.72 seconds, while Jason Hunt was 16th in 55.28 seconds. Peader McGrath was 14th in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:53.22, while Jeffrey Green was 16th in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:04.32.

St. Norbert is in fourth place after the second of three days of competition with 243 points. The Green Knights are just 16 points out of third place, trailing Monmouth College's 259 points. Grinnell leads with 582 points, while Lake Forest College is second with 494 points.
