St. Norbert In Title Hunt at MWC Championship

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College is in contention for its first Midwest Conference indoor track and field championship after the first day of action at the MWC Championship at Monmouth College's Huff Center.

The Green Knights have 58 points after the first seven events, nine points behind Monmouth's 67 points. Cornell College is a distant third place with 38 points.

Max Schermacher set a school record in the pole vault with a conference championship height of 14 feet 7 1/4 inches. Jaxsen Schermacher, in his first meet of the season after competing on the St. Norbert swimming and diving team this winter, finished second with a height of 14-1 1/4. Noah Kleiman was seventh in 12-1 1/2.

The sprint medley relay of Sam Stelloh, Ryan Priebe, Robert Tetzlaff and Peyton Janto was second in 3:38.67. Stelloh, Adam Weigman, Tetzlaff and Priebe were third in the 800-meter relay in 1:32.30.

Eric Herman recorded a third-place finish in the shot put at 45-0 1/4, followed by Gabe Golubeff in seventh place at 41-3 1/4. Tyler Lemens finished in fourth place in the long jump at 20-8, followed by Karter Decker in fifth at 20-7 1/4. Samuel Fletcher was eight in 20-5 1/4.

Joe Gasick was fifth in the 1-mile run in 4:24.93, while Lorenz Jordan was eighth in the 5,000-meter run in 15:59.27.
