St. Norbert Romps to Fifth Straight Midwest Conference Championship

MONMOUTH, Ill. - St. Norbert College captured its fifth consecutive Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship with a dominating second-day performance at Monmouth College's Huff Center.

The Green Knights totaled 218 points to easily outdistance runner-up Monmouth's 116 points. Beloit College was third with 104 1/2 points.

Graceanne Tarsa was named women's track Performer of the Meet after winning the 1-mile and 800-meter runs while also finishing third in the pole vault.

Audrey Makope set a new Midwest Conference record in the 60-meter dash, turning in a time of 7.77 seconds. That time shaded the previous standard of 7.78 seconds, set by Illinois College's Cimdiofuna Eze-Echesi in 2014.

The 4x400-meter relay of Sarah Duff, Maddie Lebrun, Morgan McClone and Cora Purdue also claimed a conference championship with a new Midwest Conference-record time of 4:00.86. The old record of 4:01.84 was set by the St. Norbert quartet of Duff, Lebrun, Clarissa Jauregui and Brittany Kozlowski in 2017.

Tarsa won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.23, followed by Joyana Tarsa in third place at 1:19.42. Kelley Gardipee was fifth in 2:19.91 and Alex Bruley seventh in 2:24.84.

The Green Knights swept the top three places in the pole vault. Kirsten Carrigan won the conference title with a height of 11 feet 1 3/4 inches. Sara DeGroot was second at 10-8, while Graceanne Tarsa was third by also clearing 10-8.

Lebrun cruised to a win in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.97 seconds. Duff was second in 58.37 seconds, while McClone was seventh in 1:01.10.

Haidyn Mueller was second in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.18 seconds. Anna Giblin was fourth in 9.53 seconds, while Sarah Wiseman was fifth in 9.58 seconds.

The distance medley relay of Hailey Ruplinger, Bruley, Clarie Van Beek and Megan Cibulka finished in second place with a time of 13:02.93.

Savanna Smith finished in fourth place in the weight throw with a distance of 46-0. Peyton McCauley finished in sixth place in the triple jump in 34-2 3/4, while Gretchen Price finished sixth in the 3,000-meter run in 11:10.59.
