Green Knights Open at Home With UW-Stevens Point

DE PERE - St. Norbert College enjoyed an early home opener in the 2019 season but suffered a doubleheader sweep at the hands of UW-Stevens Point by scores of 16-5 and 5-0 at Larry Van Alstine Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

St. Norbert held a 4-1 lead after three innings in the opener. Brett Reinhart's triple drove in Griffin Jack in the second inning to tie the score 1-1. St. Norbert scored three times in the bottom of the third inning on Max Van Boxel's RBI single and Reinhart's two-run single.

The Pointers pulled away with six runs in the fourth inning, six runs in the seventh inning and three runs in the eighth inning. St. Norbert scored a run in the seventh inning on Ben Kohl's RBI groundout to plate Sean Ferraro.

Reinhart finished 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. Bryce Braspennickx took the loss, allowing six runs in 3 1/3 innings pitched.

In the nightcap, Stevens Point scored twice in the fourth inning and three times in the fifth inning to account for all of the scoring.

St. Norbert finished with two hits - a triple by Lucas Reynolds in the first inning and a Jack single in the sixth inning. The Green Knights loaded the bases in the fifth inning but couldn't crack the scoring column.

Brad Szymusiak took the loss, allowing five runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
