St. Norbert Yields Late Rally to Ripon

RIPON - St. Norbert College held a three-run lead heading into the eighth inning but couldn't hold on in a 12-8 Midwest Conference North Division loss to Ripon College at Francis Field. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed.

The Green Knights held an 8-5 lead going into the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Red Hawks pushed across seven runs on five hits in the frame to snare the victory.

St. Norbert took a 2-0 lead on Max Van Boxel's two-run triple in the first inning. The Red Hawks scored four runs in the third inning on six hit, but the Green Knights tied the game at 4-4 with two runs in the fourth. Isaac Gerhardt had an RBI double and Lucas Reynolds a run-scoring single. Ripon scored a single run in its half of the fourth to take a 5-4 lead.

The Green Knights scored four runs on five hits in the top of the seventh inning. Ben Kohl, Griffin Jack, Van Boxel and Brett Reinhart all had consecutive RBI singles in the inning. St. Norbert had the bases loaded with one out and a three-run lead in the inning, but couldn't add to it.

St. Norbert finished with 11 hits. Jack was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while Van Boxel was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Reinhart was also 2-for-5.

Nick Klavekoske took the loss in relief for the Green Knights.
