St. Norbert Gets Split at Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - St. Norbert College finished with a doubleheader split with Illinois College in a key Midwest Conference twinbill at Jessica Kamp Field. The Green Knights won the opener 5-1 before the Lady Blues bounced back to take the nightcap 4-1.

St. Norbert (13-9, 6-2 MWC) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the opener on Allison Knop's single to score Randi Morack, who had singled earlier in the inning. The Lady Blues knotted the game at 1-1 with a run in the third inning, but the Green Knights scored a single run in each of the last four innings to pull away.

Brianna Braeger's RBI single brought home Morack in the fourth inning, while Taylor Ullman's run-scoring single in the fifth plated Whitney Baumann. Taylor Earing scored on an error in the sixth inning, while Braeger brought home a run on a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning.

Emma Molenhouse picked up the complete-game win, scattering nine hits with two walk and one strikeout.

Braeger was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, while Knop, Alyssa Sikora and Ashley Zimmerman were all 2-for-3.

St. Norbert totaled just six hits in the nightcap, scoring its lone run a Baumann RBI single in the third inning to tie the game at 1-1. The Lady Blues scored once in the third inning and twice in the fourth inning to take control.

Braeger was 2-for-4 for the Green Knights. Molenhouse took the loss in a relief appearance, allowing seven hits and three runs in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
