St. Norbert Salvages Split With Beloit

DE PERE - St. Norbert College split a Midwest Conference North Division doubleheader with Beloit College, losing the opener 4-2 before rallying to take the nightcap 7-5 on Larry Van Alstine Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

The Green Knights (12-12, 7-3 MWC North) held a 4-1 lead on Beloit before the Buccaneers scored four runs in the top of the seventh to take a 5-4 edge. St. Norbert mounted a three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning. Peyton Jack led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. He was sacrificed to second and then scored on a passed ball to tie the game. Sean Ferraro worked a walk, and Lucas Reynolds followed with a booming two-run home run to right-center field to take the lead.

Carson Jacques worked a quick ninth inning, retiring Beloit in order to earn the save.

St. Norbert scored a pair of unearned runs in the first inning and then added two runs in the second inning on Jack Maastricht's two-run double. The Green Knights held their lead at 4-1 until the seventh inning.

Maastricht was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles for the Green Knights, who had nine hits. Sam Hunt earned the win with a scoreless eighth inning.

In the opener, Beloit scored an unearned run in the first inning and got a solo home run in the sixth, but St. Norbert tied the game on Ben Kohl's two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Beloit's Mitch Campbell hit solo home runs in the seventh and ninth inning to give the Buccaneers the win.

St. Norbert managed just five hits and did not draw a walk off Beloit starter Danny Belling, who earned a complete-game win. Tommy Maher suffered the loss, allowing one earned run in seven innings.
