St. Norbert Finishes With Split at Lake Forest

LAKE FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College settled for a split in a key Midwest Conference doubleheader at Lake Forest College, winning the opener 5-4 before dropping the nightcap 7-3.

The Green Knights survived a tense opening game, seeing a 4-0 lead melt into a 4-4 tie heading into the seventh inning. Taylor Ullman's home run to center field with two outs in the top of the seventh put St. Norbert ahead, and Ellie Olsen retired Lake Forest in order in its half of the inning to close out the victory.

St. Norbert picked up an unearned run in the second inning for an early 1-0 lead. The Green Knights added three runs in the top of the third. Sarah Koltermann drove in the first run on a double, and then scored on an infield error. Emma Molenhouse's double brought in a third run for a 4-0 edge. Lake Forest would tie the game with single runs in the third and fourth innings and two runs in the fifth inning.

Ullman was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, while Allison Knop was 2-for-3 and Ashley Zimmerman was 2-for-4. Olsen earned the win with 3 2/3 innings of relief.

In the nightcap, Lake Forest would build a 5-0 lead by scoring two runs in the second inning and three runs in the fourth inning. The Green Knights got back into the game with two runs in the fifth inning, scoring on Zimmerman's two-run single. The Foresters would get a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning, and St. Norbert would close out the scoring with a single run in the seventh inning with an unearned run.

St. Norbert was held to just six hits in the second game, with Olsen taking the loss.
