Green Knights Clinch MWC Tournament Berth With Sweep of Monmouth

DE PERE - St. Norbert College clinched a spot in the four-team Midwest Conference Tournament with a doubleheader sweep of Monmouth College by scores of 5-0 and 9-3 at Miron Construction Field at Mel Nicks Sports Complex.

The Green Knights (21-15, 13-5 MWC) got a complete-game shutout from Emma Molenhouse in the opener, as she scattered five hits and struck out one while not walking a batter.

St. Norbert took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-run home run from Ashley Zimmerman. Allison Knop then stroked a solo home run in the fifth inning for a 3-0 lead. The Green Knights added a pair of unearned runs in the sixth, with a run scoring on a single by Randi Morack.

The Green Knights finished with six hits, with Zimmerman going 2-for-3.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead on a Carley Frauenhoff RBI single. The Scots added two runs in the bottom of the first, but the Green Knights countered with seven runs in the top of the second to take control. Zimmerman had a two-run single, while Sarah Koltermann and Alyssa Sikora added RBI singles. Taylor Ullman finished off the uprising with a two-run double.

Monmouth added a run in the fifth but the Green Knights got the run back on a Koltermann RBI single in the sixth.

Brianna Braeger was 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Koltermann was 3-for-4 with two runs batted in, while Frauenhoff was 2-for-3. Alexis Tingley earned the win, allowing seven hits with two strikeouts in six innings pitched.
