Drive For Five Complete as St. Norbert Wins MWC Championship

DE PERE - St. Norbert College claimed its fifth consecutive Midwest Conference Outdoor Track & Field championship with a dominating team win at the conference meet hosted by the Green Knights at Schneider Stadium.

The Green Knights totaled a whopping 222 1/2 points, well ahead of runner-up Monmouth College's 134 1/2 points. Beloit College finished third with 113 points.

St. Norbert's Graceanne Tarsa was named Outstanding Female Track Performer of the Meet, while Audrey Makope was named Newcomer of the Year. Don Augustine was named MWC Coach of the Year.

Tarsa, who won the 1,500-meter run and pole vault Friday, fashioned a victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:21.07. Kristina Herman added a win in the shot put with a distance of 43-7 1/4, while Maddie Lebrun won the 400-meter dash in 56.95 seconds. The 4x100-meter relay of Sydney Zima, Lebrun, Sarah Duff and Makope won with a time of 48.31 seconds.

Kelley Gardipee finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:18.50, followed by Morgan McClone in third at 2:19.59 and Joyana Tarsa in fourth at 2:22.14. Haidyn Mueller was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.88 seconds, followed by Katherine Wanie in fifth (15.56 seconds), Sarah Wiseman in sixth (15.67 seconds) and Anna Giblin in seventh (15.97 seconds). Duff finished second in the 400 at 58.69 seconds, with Cora Purdue placing fifth in 1:01.75.

Makope was third in the 100-meter dash in 12.33 seconds, while Alex Bruley was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 11:50.56. Sarah Wiseman placed third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:06.85, with Peyton McCauley fourth in 1:07.62 and Mueller fifth in 1:08.93. Lauren Rottier was third in the javelin throw at 117 feet 7 inches, followed by Wiseman in fifth at 116-6.

The 4x400-meter relay of Brianne Barta, Megan Cibulka, Claire Van Beek and Nicole Barth was fourth in 4:09.34. Gretchen Price was fourth in the 5,000-meter run in 18:54.16, while Duff was fifth in the 200-meter run in 25.69 seconds. Savanna Smith was sixth in the shot put at 39-5 3/4.
