Season Opens With Split at Northwestern

ST. PAUL, Minn. - St. Norbert College got its 2019 season underway with a split of two matches on the first day of the University of Northwestern Kathryne Pals Legacy Invitational at Ericksen Center.

The Green Knights dropped a hard-fought 3-1 decision to perennial national power Northwestern 25-21, 25-16, 25-27, 26-24 before rebounding to dispatch Coe College 25-17, 25-20, 23-25, 27-25.

Three St. Norbert spikers finished in double-digit kill totals in the win over Coe, with Grace Baumann leading the way with 12 kills and Katelyn Hanrahan and Jessica Geurts with 11 apiece. The Green Knights hit .207 in the match with 48 kills against 20 errors in 135 attempts. Emily Rohloff directed the offense with 36 assists.

Liz Maastricht finished with a team-high 23 digs, while Baumann added 17 digs and Hanrahan 12 digs. Geurts had four service aces, with Haley Bartz and Lexie Van Hiel adding two blocks apiece.

Against Northwestern, Baumann finished with 14 kills and Van Hiel 11 kills for St. Norbert, which hit .153 (40-20-131). Rohloff totaled 32 assists with Geurts finishing with six service aces.

Maastricht had 23 digs, while Van Hiel added two blocks.
