Green Knights Sweep Concordia, MSOE

JACKSON - St. Norbert College picked up a pair of men's tennis non-conference dual meet victories, topping Concordia (Wis.) University 5-4 and Milwaukee School of Engineering 8-1 at Pleasant Valley Tennis Club.

The Green Knights improved to 5-4 overall on the season heading into next weekend's four-match homestand against Carthage College, UW-Oshkosh, Knox College and UW-Green Bay.

St. Norbert got the early jump against Concordia by sweeping all three doubles matched. Jordan Bauer and Mike Hyrczyk topped Steven Anschutz and Austin Sveom 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Derek Harrington and Nate Tackaberry pulled out a pivotal team point at No. 2 doubles, beating Brian Tresedder and Juliano Becker 9-8 (8-6). Eric Koppmann and Matt Schmitz defeated Pat Schramka and Cody Welter at No. 3 doubles by an 8-3 score.

Bauer won at No. 1 singles for the Green Knights, besting Schramka 6-0, 6-2. Schmitz picked up the other singles win for St. Norbert at No. 6, defeating Welter 6-4, 6-3.

Against MSOE, Bauer and Hyrczyk and Harrington and Tackaberry both won their doubles matched 8-5. Koppmann and Schmitz won at No. 3 singles 8-0 over Anthony Barhouse and Taylor Pfenning.

Harrington topped Andrew Ohland 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, while Tackaberry beat Grant Lees 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4. Hyrczyk defeated Dustin Hozlhauer 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, and Matt Schmitz beat Barhouse 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6. Schmitz won his fourth-straight singles match with the win. Bauer won a three-set match at No. 1 over Juan Diego Mongenegro 4-6, 6-4, 10-3.
