Green Knights Drop Four-Set Match to Cornell

DE PERE - St. Norbert College couldn't hold off Cornell College in a key Midwest Conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center, falling to the Rams 3-1. Cornell took the match by set scores of 25-16, 25-22, 19-25, 25-23.

St. Norbert (19-7, 5-1 MWC) fell a game behind Cornell (14-7, 7-0) in the conference standings.

The Green Knights hit just .025 in the first set, as Cornell pulled away from an 8-7 deficit with a 7-0 run and were never threatened the rest of the period. St. Norbert and Cornell were tied 18-18 in the second set before a 5-0 run by the Rams tilted the frame in their direction.

St. Norbert jumped out to an 18-9 lead in the third set before Cornell charged back to get to within 20-17, but the Rams would get no closer. The Green Knights appeared to be in good shape to force a fifth set after gaining an 18-11 lead in the fourth, but Cornell had another big run 6-0 run to get back into the set. St. Norbert led 22-21, but a service error stemmed the momentum and Cornell scored four of the set's last five points to lock up the win.

The Green Knights posted a .144 hitting percentage, with 54 kills and 29 errors in 174 swings. Grace Baumann finished with 23 kills, while Haley Bartz and Lexie Van Hiel had 10 kills apiece. Emily Rohloff finished with 48 assists.

Liz Maastricht totaled 20 digs, while Baumann added 17 and Rohloff and Katelyn Hanrahan had 13 apiece.

Cornell hit .203 (46-17-143). Allison Eikenberry had 14 kills to lead the Rams.
