Schmidt Named Program's First Assistant Coach

DE PERE - Brandon Schmidt has been named St. Norbert College men's volleyball assistant coach, head coach B.J. Bryant announced today. An avid player and coach of the sport, Schmidt has been involved in volleyball for over 10 years.

Schmidt began his coaching career as a student practice player and student assistant coach for Michigan Technological University's NCAA Division II women's volleyball team during the 2012 through 2016 seasons. Last fall, Schmidt served as the assistant head coach for Kaukauna High School's varsity boys volleyball team.

Schmidt's playing career began in high school where he was a standout at Kaukauna, which made two WIAA State Tournament appearances finishing as the state runner-up in 2012. During his undergraduate years at Michigan Tech, Schmidt garnered all-conference honors on the NCVF DII men's club team. Graduating from Michigan Tech with cum laude honors in 2016 with degree in chemical engineering, Schmidt went on to pursue his Master in Business Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and continued his collegiate playing career. While at UWO, Schmidt was a three-year starter for the school's NCVF DI men's volleyball team, where he received All-America recognition.

"Brandon has gotten his coaching career off to a great start. He has a tremendous passion for the sport, relates well to the athletes he coaches, and has a strong playing background to draw from," Bryant said. "Our program is extremely fortunate to find someone with his qualifications and ability to help get this program off the ground in 2020."

A native of Kaukauna, Schmidt currently resides in Appleton.
