GALESBURG, Ill. - St. Norbert College scored twice in the last 20 minutes of action to escape with a 2-1 win over archrival Lake Forest College in a semifinal game of the Midwest Conference Tournament held at Galesburg High School's Van Dyke Field.
The Green Knights (15-4-2) will face Knox College (15-3-2) for the MWC Tournament championship at 2 p.m. Saturday at Knox's Jorge Prats Field. St. Norbert is searching for its first NCAA Division III Tournament berth since 2016.
Lake Forest (10-8-1) scored early when Lucas Geib finished off a Connor Keast assist just 18 minutes 50 seconds into the match. That marker would hold up until late in the match, when a persistent St. Norbert attack would cash in.
Brandon DiOrio fired a long throw-in to the head of Ben Prange, whose flick found Domenic DeMaria at the back post. DeMaria slotted it home for his third goal of the season, scoring at 71:48. The Green Knights would keep the pressure on and pulled ahead at the 80:33 mark, when Lucas Rojas' corner connected with Drake Vandermause, whose header found the cage for a 2-1 lead.
Josh Koleske made three saves in goal for the Green Knights, while Jan Roessler stopped four shots for the Foresters.
Lake Forest outshot St. Norbert 11-9, but the Green Knights held a 10-4 edge in corner kicks. The match was marred by a combined 48 fouls.
